The skies have exploded, water-level scales a high and I am swept off, and when my mind takes such a state, the destruction has to be immense. That’s the way I feel once I start spinning Throcult. The band that emancipates a storm, that’s unraveled and wild. Stormbringer-Conjuration of the nighthorde is an album that combines a well-built lyrical narrative delivered with immaculately proportionate death-black riffage. Shades of Myrkskog and Dissection are relatively present on the playing style, but the build up of a freezing cold feeling (by the band), of passing through a dark misty forest on a lunar night, which is overloaded leaves of black and gray. Demarcates their blend from the former.
Ivan Alcala-G/V groans through a mourning throat soaked in evil, straight out of hell. The expanse of darkness seems immeasurable on ‘Through fog of war’, ‘On demon wings’, ‘Blood of thy enemy’, the title track and ‘Order of lunar temple’ (whose video is also included as a bonus on the disc). David on drums generates a rapid pace, with unmatched brutality and force (that’s extremely audible, courtesy a fine production). He acts as an essential transformer giving figures to shapes created by throcult. A little presence of some leads could have made it a bit more melodic. (But, that’s too much asking from this particular genre). Nevertheless, still its quite full.
Looking at the complete orientation of the record that’s dense, has viscous rhythmic harmonies purely in synch with speed, demands some toil from a four-piece? But they set the standards of perfection-as far as control is concerned. Verdict (on 9 track, 42 min album) seems clear ‘Stormbringer-Conjuration of the nighthorde’is an album that consumes you deep inside with war, suffering, death and a consequent blurry vision that sees only ghost and disfigured faces. Listening to it on a chilly and lonely night surely sets up an unmoving dusk inside you. Must pick!
