The Adept is a five piece metal band hailing from the South Jersey. The promo released in 2009 contains two songs ‘Callous Consumption’ and ‘The Judas Complex’. It’s hard to classify them in a technical death metal category because they have a lot of different influences and they incorporate melody alongside intense grindcore and death metal riffage which is by nature very stock in the two songs. They might come across as a deathcore band but they refuse to take the generic approach.
‘The Judas Complex’ is a chaotic death metal song with super clicky bass drums which will blow your mind. However the muddy snare is a bit too raw. Production is not good either! Vocals are low in the mix but nonetheless effective. ‘Callous Consumption’ starts with a slam riff that turns into epic sounding assault. This track is something that shows the band’s progressive side. There are lot of melody interludes and heavy breakdowns.
The Adept are trying to find their sound and aiming for greater horizons by breaking away from the much emulated and exhausted genre. Let’s hope they don’t end up compromising on their musicianship. If you don’t mind experimentation then I’d recommend checking out their new album ‘Catastrophic Ecstasy’.
