Why Tom Angelripper felt it was so necessary to explore the punk side of metal for so many years, when Sodoms claim to fame was firmly entrenched in classic thrash metal splendor, seems strange to me.Code Red is a triumphant return to form, this album should have been a follow up to Tapping The Vein( even though tapping..was much heavier!), for Tom & co have delved back into speed injected and at times technical thrash with insane solo work and chorus’ that aren’t afraid to spew the song title 4 times!even though Tom sticks to a harsher form of core influenced shouting for much of Code Red, the music is well produced(Harris Jones, he contributes on playing guest lead on "the wolf and the lamb"), the sound is painfully hitting and when Tom allows a more blackened phlegmy aggression to enter his pipes as on the title track,"Book Burning", "Cowardice" and "What Hell Can Create", am teleported back to the glory days of Sodom, "The Better Off Dead" era.By utilizing a wide range of tempos,Code Red flows smoothly and with teeth clearly exposed!!!!!…the bass tone, the crushing drumming( Bobby rulz with his powerful patterns) and killer rolls, and yet the simplistic structures( Bernemann’s abililty to create structures which stick in your brain and make you spin outta control, yet keep the sound brutal and basic),yes my friends..this is classic Sodom revisited.Total thrasher from the German front!!! now only if Mille would get the once mighty Kreator back on track,we could all die happy! the saw is STILL the law!!!!!!!!!
