The album opener of Silver Tears debut EP ‘Dirt Beyond Beauty‘ is Dirt Beyond Beauty, which commences with a flourish of soothing keyboard melody entwined with a beautiful guitar line. After a calculated time-period, the song perfectly unfolds itself. The almighty riff steps in, as do the vocals. The riffs and the vocals beautifully compliment each other, while the keyboards build up the much-needed atmospherics. The chorus is where the vocals flawlessly soar and reach a certain enviable crescendo. The guitar-solo in my humble opinion shows traces of sheer brilliance and is melodious as well as powerful at the same time; it’s EXACTLY what the song demands.
Euphonious Odyssey, the EP’s second song is where the band shows its affinity toward the progressive elements in music. The instrumental arrangement of the song is something that would earn the band praises from its audience. The drums and guitars are locked in real nice. The extremely melodious guitar solo showcases the guitar-player’s talents once again and it also ends the song, ably supported by some nice keyboards.
The third song of the EP is entitled Deep Within. The way it starts and the way it alters, is quite awesome. Lyrically, it talks about unrequited love and is a guitar driven ballad, with the trademarks of the band. The keyboards actually make it sparkle and there’s a little jazz-influenced feel in the song. It most certainly isn’t your clichéd, everyday ballad. There are shades of melancholy in it and the vocalist reaches the high notes with consummate ease.
Drifter is the last song of ‘DIRT BEYOND BEAUTY‘ and opens with a groovy riff, which soon grows up and would make the listener, stand up and pay notice. The song puts a particular highlight on the guitar parts and is quite interesting overall.
In totality, the album makes for some delightful listening. The band showcases its musical prowess, without being overtly flashy and creates some amazing guitar oriented progressive hard rock.
The tears have started to flow and there’s no stopping ‘em !
