Uncompromising brutality at its sickening best, that’s Pustulated for you!! The difference in Haematoma, however comes in the musical structures. It’s definitely not as appealing as their previous work, but it’s still one of the most brutal releases in the scene. Andres’ grunts and perverted shrieks are awesome as always and are clearly one of the highlights of this release. The drumming, performed by Chad Walls (ex-Brodequin), is very intricate and nothing less than total annihilation the snare drum coupled with skillfull double bass execution.
The first half of the CD (track 1-7) is “new” material, and it sounds quite experimental really and not something that you expect from Pustulated. On the other hand, the second half (track 8-12, released previously in a split with Copremesis) is exactly what you were hoping for when you got this cd. These final tracks have everything that Pustulated used to be, catchy riffing and raw gut busting brutality.
The album is overall very good, it even includes a ‘Dimebag’ Darrell tribute (sixth track), but I still prefer their “Pathogonomic Purulency” release which left me absolutely speechless. For people who have been listening to this band for some time now, Haematoma might not be the “old” Pustulated, but still brutal in some sense. However for any newbie, this would be a classic pick.
