Nailbomb was the classic side project of ex-Sepultura frontman and leader Max Cavalera providing the insults with Alex Newport [his stepson] of the band Fudge Tunnel providing for all the negativity with his mouth-full of hate. This album ‘Point Blank’ was released back in ’94 after the success of Sepultura’s Chaos AD and has contributions from Sepultura axeman Andreas Kisser, master drummer Igor Cavalera [max.’s younger brother] and Ritchie Bujnowski from Wicked Death creating some extra guitar noise. Max who’s designed the Nailbomb logo shares the guitar, bass and samples responsibilities with Alex on this album. This album is a industrial/punk/thrash album with a lot of sound samples but let me assure you from the word go you will never get more raw power from this than any other album. Right from the album opener "Wasting Away" with its aggressive riffing and insane drumming till the last track "Shit Life" the entire album is a non-stop roller coaster ride you’ll never forget. The characteristic Cavalera riffing is there except that it’s made zillion times heavier and accompanying that is Alex’s heavy bass poundings which form the solid foundation for the album. The album cover’s titled "Point Blank Persuasion" showing a US trooper pressing his M16 rifle to a Vietnamese woman’s forehead which is representative of the album sound which is every bit rebellious and hostile against any oppression. Another killer track "24 Hour Bullshit" is about the shit on TV and the media in general and about how the hypocritical bastards hide the real truth and as an added bonus has Dino Cazares from Fear Factory lending a hand in the shredwork. "Blind and Lost" another fast track with a great bass part in between has a solo of sorts contributed by Alex too. Next track "Sum of your Achievements" is slower than the rest of them and has a peculiar gloomy feel to it. The next song "Cockroaches", another one with a great bass part has some very strong lyrics like " Don’t need sympathy, Smile its nothing but teeth, I’ll keep my integrity, Even if I have to sleep on the street." which will certainly move you. The album’s booklet is also one you’ll never have held in your hands as its a collage of all the lyrics scribblings pasted together, incoherently, with some artwork done by the band for the Nailbomb logo. On each lyric piece the segregation of the vocal duties are also mentioned!! The booklet has on its opposite side a collage of all the b&w band pics made by Alex himself. The entire album is full of abuses and not even one song is spared {one’s called "For Fuck’s Sake"} as these guys release their pent-up energies and brutality through their intense music! "World of Shit" is another one with outrightly pessimistic lyrics as it starts off with the line "Hate is Reality" and has the blasphemous chorus as "Don’t you know God Hates?" They’ve also done a cover of the song "Exploitation" by the band Doom which starts off with someone criticizing the lack of talent, not to mention sheer loudness of metal music and then moves into an irritating and shrill grinding sound of a machine to piss off that guy. Another killer track is "Religious Cancer" one of the groovier tracks you’ll certainly love even if you don’t like thrash metal. Overall an album you’ll love to own if you’re a sepultura/thrash metal freak, and let me warn you once the album is played loud in the neighborhood your bound to get your eviction notice soon!! The album also kindly requests the following to ‘Fuck Off’ namely Lenny Kranivitz, The Black Crowes, Fake Hippies and Skinhead O’ Conner and I couldn’t agree more. For all the Sepultura and Fudge Tunnel fans a very loud FUCK SHIT UP!!
