Mystic Frost, a Pune based hard rock/ progressive band released their debut album late last year. The band comprising of Amod on vocals and guitar, Ram on lead guitar, Anand on bass and Sanjeev on drums released this album building on their previous ’96 demo. The album ‘Ripchord Moksha’ is not a jibe at the metal band "Moksha" in any way but is a phrase Amod Dange came up with and he only can explain the meaning. The album overall is a very good, one that of international recognition had there been a decent enough rock and metal market in this country. Just the lack of exposure has them on the mat or they’ve the capabilities of matching the likes of any popular international rock artist. So buy the album and help them up. The album reflects on the maturity the lead singer has and this album can only be thoroughly be appreciated with the lyrics sheet in hand. The album kicks off with "Innerface" a song about introspection and has wonderful lyrics as most of the songs. Other songs which are a must-listen are "Neutralized", "Nightmare", "Cruel Kind" and "Escape from Reality", all of which have very amazing lyrics to them. The guitar work on each song is also good but they’ve made them shorter than their previous demo. They’ve done their best for animal rights too with the song "Golden Cage" which will definitely make your hearts heavy. And for a person as illiterate in English as me it preferable to sit with a dictionary during some songs. The sing-along song for the ones who’d like to match their vocal abilities to that of Amod should listen to "Hollow in my Head" and "Monkey in the Well". Their sound is not heavy nor is it fast so all you death metal freaks stay away ‘cos you’re gonna be disappointed, but it is a very good listen anyway and there is a helluva lot of pain in the lyrics! The album artwork is also very remarkable and not simple like all in Indian albums and once you see it you’ll be bound to pick it up seeing the cover itself. All in all a very goodbuy and I recommend it for all with an open mind for all forms of music and I personally would give it a rating of 8.5 out of 10. It’s an excellent album by Indian standards and if you’re unable to get the album in your city you should contact the band directly for details about how to do so at amodange@yahoo.com or at http://www.cdbaby.com/mysfro for those interested in buying ‘Ripchord Moksha’ online. All you guys go buy it at once and promote Indian – you won’t regret the purchase.
