Liturgy was formed in late 2003, by vocalist Matty Way and bassist/guitarist Jaime Baliey, ( Brodequin). Their music is very similar to that of Brodequin, and I would idealy classify it as dark death-grind.
Dawn of Ash is in a lot of ways reminiscent of Brodequin’s earlier releases like Instruments of Torture and Festival of Death, and you would get to hear the usual lightning speed riffing, relentless blasts and uncompromsing guttural vomits on this album. The drummer on this album is Jon Engman, whose prowess is evident from Brodequin’s earlier releases.
For people who are into this form of extreme death-grind, this would be an ideal album, although I would personally rate Brodequin a notch higher as Liturgy sometimes fails to deliver that punch that you get to see in Brodequin. This is why I think that a lot of people might find this album a little one dimesional.
My favourite tracks would be “Shrine of Moria” and “Wounds of Christ”. There are 2 awesome covers as well, Disgorge- Cognitive lust for mutlilation ,Brodequin- Infested with Worms.
If you are really into this genre, go ahead and get this album. For others, this might just be an album that wouldn’t hear twice.
