The cover artwork, gives a strange sensation about this cd as to how the music goes! A wicked old man lost somewhere in the midst of a black forest, no signs of light! Is there anything the cover has to do with the music here? Yup! This is an underground unique avantgarde black metal release. Hailing from Germany, not sure what Grabnebelfursten actually means.. but the music they create is surely something very different here.. Its raw, melodious, depressive and has presence of loads of various elements! The output is not majorly influenced by darkthrone, or mayhem like many black metal projects come out with.Members have exploited all the possible niches, right from Thrash, Viking and dark melodies, its a combination of alot of unexpected moves. If one starts tab’in the song structures, the result shall be landing upto no-where. For instance, taking up the vocals ; its a mixture of muffles, moans, typical black shrieks, whispers.Male operatics are heard in " SehnSUCHT " this time , and a lot more. Its done with alot of effort ;absolute display of talent. Cant really think of throating which has been performed here to match any bands attempt, but then let me club you vocals of early Emperor releases, Aeturnus, & Hecate enthroned . The lyrics are in german, but its all about the music! Guitar works are shredding, and a few solos have been exhibited which are not that technical but then its a whole lot of creativity towards the end! Visualize the early Ancient,Emperor,Marduk works and the listener should be somewhere near to the gear-distortion’s used in this cd.In a disc where the music is constantly deviating and not standing upto a single tune, its really interesting to hear what the guitars have to do to pool in with the other instruments. The same goes with the drumming as well, midpaced with extreme touches from the beginning to the end.On an overage, its tearing up the kit. When the music tends to turn aside, in order to give the background a depressive and a dark feeling;noticeable touches of keyboards too lend a contribution then. Since the music is completely changing its moods, it does turn monotonous sometimes, but looking at it in the positive manner, this cd needs a few spins and a bit of patience when you have the disc in the player. A few suggestions would be to use the growling work and the keys abit more. The bass notes except the 3rd track " Sturmpropheten" are a bit hidden too, if some changes can be activated; the result could be brilliant! Undoubtly,The production is top notch. Ketzer records have supported many underground bands with great production and promotion work! The sound remains punching and very clear.Clocking in at close to 60 minutes, the album is a worthwhile hunt! Tracks outstanding: Von Schemen und Trugbildern, Was bleibt , Sakralästhetik Towards the end, not everybody , but listeners into experimenting something different would surely check this band out ! Theres lots to get and very little to compromise!
