Interview with : Luca, Vocalist
To start with, could you please give a brief introduction about you and your roll in your band.
Well, Urshurark are born in the ’99 from my idea to combine the black and the death metal in a gloomy and apocalyptic atmosphere. Essentially the project was that to create a brutal style with horror influences.
I am sure many people must have asked you this question before but one more time, can you tell our readers what does your band’s name mean ? And why did you choose that name ?
The name of the band is originated from a book of Hildebrant brothers, a work very impressing to me. It narrates of dark earth of punishments and torments, as music that I had intention to compose. We have also adopted this name for its strange cacophony and for its originality. I think that this name suits perfectly to the style of the band.
Could you give us an insight into your band’s history ?
The band was born in April’99, in Bari. I and my brother gave life to the project, than Mark and Freddy entered in the band after some changes of line up subsequently, we have recorded "A.O.P.D." in August’ 01.
How would you best describe your music ? What bands influenced Urshurark’s sound?
Our music is a combination of the Black, Thrash and Death metal. An assault in your senses of pure and aggressive music!! We are influenced by the Swedish Death and by the Norwegian black, but you can find many other tones in our music.
Now coming to your debut ‘Architecture Of Perfect Damnation’, could you tell us something about the release ? What is the concept behind the album ? What message are you trying to convey through your album ?
"A.O.P.D." is a very hard album! The music mixes melodic moments to others more aggressive. This album wants to symbolize the power and the aggressiveness, the excess and the harmony. The songs narrate of suffering and death with the help of grisly metaphors. Really horror, in the good Italian style !! In fact, a very important component of our sound draws from the soundtracks. Particularly in the 4 track "Decade Of TheTyrant." In this song we have wanted to propose a moment drawn by a medieval composition, that we had listened in a film of Dreyer the "Dies Irae."
Has any label shown interest in signing you after your debut’s release ?
We are considering some proposals, but I can’t now give you any interesting news at the moment.
Are you touring for promoting the release ? If yes, then with whom ?
Yes, we are organizing some dates, but for now only in Italy. But first time, we have to find a new bass player! I hope we’ll work with good band’s in the future for our gigs.
What next ? Are you guys working on a followup to A.O.P.D. ?
Sure, we have already ended some new songs. I just want to tell you that we will confirm how much of good is on "A.O.P.D.", but will be also a very different album, surely even more apocalyptic!
What other topics do you hold interest in other than music ? What do you do when you are not making music ?
Oh…. mmmm…., we have a very normal life, I think unless we aren’t drunk hahaha…
You have a good death metal voice. Have you taken any kind of training for it? what other instruments do you play ?
Thanx man for your appreciation about my voice! Well, no any training, it’s very natural for me to sing in this way. I wouldn’t not really know how to express my hate with any other way of singing, you know.I play the guitar and the bass guitar, I like to play and to write the music of Urshurark.
A Brooklyn based progressive metal band is also called ‘Urshurak’, did you have any problems about the name with them ?
No, I don’t know this band!!! Very similar their name, but they misses one "r" hahaha… We have perhaps read the same book !!
What is the local scene in Italy ? What kind of music is most popular in your country ?
In italy there are many good band, for example Necrodeath are very good and Natron, they are ours great friends, but I could make a long list of other bands. The italian metal guys likes a lot the death and the black, but the original bands are really very few !!
Where do you see your band 5 years from now ?
Oh my fucking god!!! I hope that we are alive until then hahaha…
