Interview with Bangalore based brutal death band, Perforated Limb.

Hello Perforated limb! How are you guys doing? You guys have quite a unique name, tell us how did this come up?
Cheerz Atul! We guys are fine out here !! Recently we played at The Undergrind (28 July) with other Underground Death Metal bands. It was an amazing experience !!! Infact many people ask us why do we have such a strange name!Perforated Limb !!! When we guys got together, we wanted a name which sounds unique and sick! One day Cliffy (Guitarist-Anorectal Ulceration) came up with this name all of a sudden !!! We guys liked it a lot and continued to call ourselves Perforated Limb !!! Its some kind of a disease !.

You are another extreme band emerging from the garden city, prior to you we featured Gorified and Anorectal Ulceration, over the past few years we are witnessing a rise of the extreme bands only from Bangalore, why is that?
As everyone knows, Gorified and Gruesome Malady have set a standard for themselves at the global scene !!! They are our primary influences!These bands laid the foundation for the underground metal scene in Bangalore!.Now more bands are into playing extreme music which is a positive sign !! We just want the scene to get more better and see more extreme underground bands coming up to showcase their talent and brooooootality !!!!
Bangalore is the Rock Capital of India! The Rock culture first started here before spreading to the rest of the country !!! Same with Beer (Buuurrrppp !!!) And same with Extreme Metal!Whenever we do things, we do it differently. Proud to be Bangaloreans !!!!

Since you guys are relatively new to scene, tell us in detail how did you get together?
Sreenivas : It all happened by chance ! Myself and Sajid were playing in a band called Inhuman before !!! The bassist quit as he couldn’t concentrate both on his work and the band !!! So basically we were a two piece band without any vocalist !!! Rajeev had come to one of our shows ! Later he got to know that we need a vocalist !!! So we roped him into the band and the rest is history !!!

Elaborate on your style of music, what primary bands influence you?
We play a style of music called Slam Brutal Death Metal !!!! We don’t get to see many bands playing this kind of style in the Indian scene! We are influenced mainly by bands like Cannibal Corpse, Devourment, Disgorge [USA], Disgorge [MEX], Disavowed, Immolation, Putrid Pile, Brodequin, Nile, Suffocation, Deeds Of Flesh, Origin etc! and lots more !!!

Since most extreme metal themes/lyrics are still unacceptable even to the general metal audience, how different or similar are your themes when compared to your counterparts worldwide? What do you generally sing about?
Coming to the lyrical theme, we are not really different from the other bands worldwide!We mostly sing about Gore, Cannibalism, Suffering, Porn, Necrophilia, Corpophilia, BDSM, Sickness etc!..

Since there is not much scope of gigging for bands of your genre in the domestic scene, Metalindia would like to know your perspective on festival organizers shying away from featuring extreme bands? How receptive is the Bangalore crowd to your kind of music? Is it hard enough to find venues to play even in your hometown? Any festivals you would like to play?
We just don’t go out playing at every metal gig or every college rock show !!! But yeah extreme metal bands are not given much importance like the other bands !!! Since we don’t venture out too much , we cannot comment about the organizers and their attitude towards Extreme metal bands !! Because of the lack of sponsors, exorbitant rate for venues and the limited audience ; we guys organize our own shows called The Undergrind !!! It’s a platform for Underground bands to showcase their talent !!!! Even though its on a smaller scale, we have a cult following who are dedicated in supporting the extreme metal scene in Bangalore !!!

Nowadays, a strong trend of rehearsing and recording in the studio is catching up early with most Indian mainstream bands, are you also having some plans of that sort? When can we see you entering a studio for a full-fledged album recording?
This is a really good trend !!! We can see many bands releasing their albums through reputed record labels. It gives an opportunity for them to showcase their talent and market their band across the world. Without recording, the bands have to be content by gigging only in the local scene! Yeah sure ! We do have plans to record some material by the end of 2007 or the beginning of 2008!If not a full fledged album, we might have our Demo CD out! Hoping for the best !!!

Analyzing the role of Indian journals and record labels, how critical do you think can their role be to uplift the extreme scene in the days to come? How much catching have we got to do to meet International metal standards?
Journals, Magazines, Record Labels play a vital role by promoting the metal scene irrespective of the country. When it comes to India, the trend is slowly catching up. On this note, we would like to thank Metalindia for providing us this opportunity and encouraging extreme metal bands to get to the forefront. Congrats Metalindia for your commitment and dedication! In India, we rarely get to hear about extreme metal gigs happening. It’s only a few mainstream bands who keep gigging every now and then. All we get to see are those few pictures splashed across the pages of a magazine whose name we would not like to mention. There is lot more to be done to uplift the extreme metal scene in India. First of all, the mindset of people should change. The journals and magazines should try covering more and more underground bands rather than just concentrating on a few mainstream bands. The Indian record companies should sign up extreme metal bands and do their bit to support the extreme scene.

Not many!Only a few of them like Gruesome Malady, Gorified, Anorectal Ulceration etc!.
