Interview with Hammerhead

We caught up with Guwahati based Death/Thrash band, Hammerhead

Greetings from MetalIndia Magazine. Please introduce yourself to our readers
Hi, we’re a four piece Death/Thrash metal outfit from Guwahati, Assam. We call ourselves ‘Hammerhead’.

How would you define Hammerhead’s musical style?
Our music is a blend of brutal death metal and thrash. We also embrace a basic ‘technical’ sound, a progressive metal melody and a lyrical structure that normally talks about violence, mutilation, hatred and war

When was ‘Insane Generation’ EP released? What is the theme/concept behind it? Is it self released? Where is it being recorded?
Insane Generation was released in the first week of November. The E.p comprises of four songs that lyrically deal mostly with Third world disorder, Mutilation, War and Political unrest. The album is self-released. However, we are taking promotional and marketing support from UM Pro records. The album was recorded in Sound Zone studios. Production was looked after by Ambar Das sir.

Where can we get hold of your EP?
The song ‘Depth of Despair’ from our E.p is up on our Reverbnation page for free download. The Rest of the songs will only be available in the physical Cd. The E.p is available in major cities through all Furtados outlets. It will also be available through the Flaming Skull distribution network.

Sepultura seems to be major influence (after listening to “Depth of Despair”). Which other bands does Hammerhead draw inspiration from?
We’re all big fans of Sepultura and that coming across as a blatant influence means a lot to us. Besides that, we’re fans of Slayer, Death and Exodus.

With so many Thrash/Death metal bands, what would you say is your band’s unique selling point?
In our humble opinion, we do not want to comment on that. That’s for the fans to decide. We believe in letting our music do the talking, once in a while..

What issues/topics does Hammerhead feel strongly about?
As individuals, we’ve always had great love for metal. We’ve also witnessed a great deal of unrest in our motherland. The combination of these two factors led to the formation of Hammerhead in the first place. We’ve always felt strongly about issues like corruption, political turmoil and forced prostitution. To us, Hammerhead is a means of putting across social messages in the form of musical expression.

Please tell us about gigs/concerts you have played.
We’re a relatively new band. Hence, we’ve not played in too many shows outside North-east India. The last gig we played in was at the Unseen Underground show organized by Jatin Sharma Sir.

Any local band you would recommend listening to.
Yeah, Hammerhead!  Oops… Besides us, Insane Prophecy is pretty killer! :

Thank you for the interview and wish you all the best
We thank Metal India Magazine for taking interest in our music. We’re planning on full-length soon.  Do check our Reverbnation page for updates. Hammer on!
